Yelp integration: frequently asked questions
Find answers to common questions below.
- Why is Uber partnering with Yelp?
Uber and Yelp are partnering on a pilot to understand the benefit of increased information about restaurants and other merchants on the Uber Eats app.
- What components of Yelp are being added to Uber Eats?
Yelp star ratings, reviews, and dish photos are being added to the Uber Eats feed, your restaurant’s storefronts, and your menu items.
- How does it work?
As this is a pilot, there are various treatment groups. But these are the basics:
In the Feed - Consumers will see each merchant’s Yelp star-rating and the number of reviews they have in the home Feed when scrolling. In many cases in this pilot, we’ll only show restaurants with 4 or more stars.
On Restaurant storefronts - Restaurants’ storefront page will show Yelp star-rating and have an option to view reviews determined by Yelp.
On menu items - Corresponding dish photos from Yelp will also show in a restaurants menu if any are identified.
- What happens to my Uber star rating?
The Uber star-rating system stays exactly the same. Customers ordering from your stores on Uber Eats will still provide an Uber star rating and optional review after every order. Your Uber ratings will still be visible in Uber Eats Manager and be used to determine your Top Eats standing. Customers will not be asked to complete a Yelp review when ordering through Uber Eats.
- How does this affect my Top Eats status?
Yelp reviews have no impact on your Top Eats status. Top Eats will continue to be determined by your Uber star rating and other qualifying metrics found on the Top Eats page of Uber Eats Manager.
- Will Yelp information also appear on Postmates?
We are beginning this pilot on the Uber Eats app in May, but if it is successful may extend it to Postmates consumer app surfaces as well.
- Will Uber Eats customers be providing Yelp reviews?
No, customers on Uber Eats will not be asked to complete Yelp reviews. Customers will provide Uber star ratings and reviews that are visible in the Feedback section of your Uber Eats Manager.
- What if I want a Yelp review taken down?
- What if I don’t agree with my Yelp star rating?
Yelp star-ratings are determined by the community of review contributors on Yelp. Yelp uses an automated recommendation software to highlight the most reliable and helpful reviews by evaluating every review based on hundreds of different signals of quality, reliability, and user activity on Yelp. The recommendation software is engineered to provide a level playing field for all businesses on Yelp. Merchants can learn more here.
- How are the reviews selected to be added to Uber Eats?
- How can I opt out of Yelp ratings and reviews being shown on my Uber Eats storefront?
Opting out means we won’t show your Yelp ratings, reviews, and dish photos on your Uber Eats store’s profile. Your Uber star rating will be shown instead where applicable. Call 800-235-3287 (800-ASK-EATS) or email firstname.lastname@example.org to opt out.
- Will customers be able to see how old a review is?
Yes, the date and time a review was completed will be presented above the review itself.
- Do businesses that advertise on Yelp get special treatment by the recommendation software?
No. There’s no connection between advertising on Yelp and how the recommendation software treats a business’s ratings and reviews. The recommendation software applies the same objective standards to all businesses, meaning reviews of advertisers and non-advertisers are treated exactly the same.
